JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, September 27, 2017/APO/ --

The Department Trade and Industry (the dti) together with the Makana Local Municipality will be hosting Taking the dti to the People outreach event at the Multi-Purpose Centre in Joza Township, Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape on Thursday, 28 September 2017.

The outreach forms part of the Public Service Month where South Africans will be given an opportunity to reflect on the public service and its ability to deliver quality services that meet the expectations of the public, in line with government’s Batho Pele Programme.

According to the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Bulelani Magwanishe, the Taking the dti to the People Campaign is a platform that aims to empower communities with information and enable them to utilise the information to take advantage of opportunities offered by government.

“It also seeks to build community capacity with the aim of addressing current economic issues in order to accelerate job creation and sustainable economic development in the country. The outreach also creates awareness about products and services offered by the dti and its agencies,” says Magwanishe.

Aspiring entrepreneurs and SMMEs in Joza Township and the surrounding areas, will get an opportunity to engage with officials from National Consumer Commission (NCC), National Credit Regulator (NCR) and Companies and Intellectual Property Commission.

The outreach enhances government's commitment to work together with communities to encourage sharing and create structures which give genuine participation and involvement, to better the lives of all South Africans.
