Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on the double suicide attack inside an IDP camp in north-eastern Nigeria

NEW YORK, United States of America, February 12, 2016/APO (African Press Organization)/ --

The Secretary-General condemns the double suicide attack carried out by suspected Boko Haram elements on 9 February in the Dikwa Camp in Borno State, north-eastern Nigeria. He deplores the death of scores of internally displaced persons and injuries to many others.


The Secretary-General extends his deepest sympathy and condolences to the Government and people of Nigeria and to the bereaved families. He also wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.

The Secretary-General calls for an end to all acts of terrorism and sectarian violence in the country. He reaffirms the support of the United Nations to the Nigerian Government in its fight against terrorism, and reiterates his call for a comprehensive approach to preventing and countering the scourge of terrorism, and addressing its root causes in compliance with international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law.
