More chances to get your COVID-19 vaccine

From 30th March until 26th May 2022, teams will be visiting these Tinkhundla: Kwaluseni, Mbabane West, Mhlume, Manzini North, Shiselweni II, and Lobamba

These mobilisation efforts will go a long way towards contributing to increasing the country’s vaccination rate to 70% by June of this year

The “Give our future a shot” campaign aims to mobilise community members in various Tinkhundla to vaccinate against COVID-19. From 30^th March until 26^th May 2022, teams will be visiting these Tinkhundla: Kwaluseni, Mbabane West, Mhlume, Manzini North, Shiselweni II, and Lobamba.

With the objective of limiting the number of EmaSwati who get infected, become seriously ill, are hospitalised, or die as a result of COVID-19, this mobilisation intends to empower residents with information about the vaccines. This is with the purpose of encouraging citizens to protect themselves and their loved ones against the virus.

Furthermore, to give community members an opportunity to get vaccinated, vaccination sites will be set-up on the days that the teams are in your Inkhundla. If anyone misses that chance, there will be more opportunities to vaccinate. This will for example be when healthcare workers are back in the Inkhundla two to three days after the mobilisation to administer vaccines.

“We are excited to see partners across private and public sectors collaborating to make COVID-19 vaccines more accessible to all. These mobilisation efforts will go a long way towards contributing to increasing the country’s vaccination rate to 70% by June of this year.

We encourage EmaSwati to engage with the mobilisation teams and do their part by getting vaccinated,” says Ministry of Health’s Bongiwe Dlamini, Health Promotion Program Manager - Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) Lead.

In addition to travelling with a mobile billboard and utilising a public address system to get people’s attention, educational flyers and posters containing vaccination sites information will be distributed across Tinkhundla.

Dlamini adds, “With the vaccination rate increasing, so many people’s lives will be preserved, the COVID-19 infection rate will go down, pressure on the healthcare system will be alleviated, and the country’s economic recovery will be enabled.”

About the campaign:
The Eswatini Ministry of Health is collaborating with various partners to control and limit the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Partners include, for example, Eswatini Business Health and Wellness Management (EBH), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Pact, Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC), Population Services International (PSI), The US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), United Nations Eswatini (UN Eswatini), The Luke Commission (TLC), and University of Witwatersrand Vaccines and Infectious Disease Analytics (VIDA). Reaching a target of having 70% of the eligible population vaccinated by June 2022 is a national priority. Partnership efforts are underway across the country to increase access to and provide information about COVID-19 vaccines. This media article is part of the “Give our future a shot” campaign to create awareness, access, and provide people around Eswatini with useful information.

COVID-19 is a disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, tiredness, sore throat, headache, muscle ache and dry cough. To date over 6 million deaths have been recorded globally as a result of COVID-19. Various vaccines are available in Eswatini, including the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines which are widely used around the world and considered safe. All available vaccines have been shown to reduce COVID-19 related hospitalization, severe disease, and death. Anyone who is registered on the National Vaccination Registry is eligible to receive any of the vaccines. It is important that as much of the population as possible is vaccinated, as quickly as possible, as part of efforts to limit the impact of future waves of COVID-19 cases and new viral variants. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 4.5 billion people across the world have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
