On March 2, commencing at 11:35 a.m. (local time: same day, 03:05 p.m. JST) for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. YAMADA Kenji, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting New Delhi, India, for the G20 Summit, held a meeting with Hon. Mr. Alan GANOO, Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. At the outset, State Minister Yamada stated that this year marks the 30th anniversary of TICAD, and that he was pleased to witness the bilateral relations have already strengthened through visit by Japan-African Union (AU) Parliamentary Friendship League. He also stated that he would like to take this opportunity to further deepen Japan-Mauritius relations in various fields including disaster risk reduction and maritime security. He also stated that Japan is following closely the role of Mauritius as a gateway for investment in Africa, and is expecting to cooperate for upcoming Public and Private Sector Joint Mission for Promoting Trade and Investment in Africa in May. In response, Minister Ganoo expressed his gratitude for the wide range of Japan’s support, such as support for climate change as well as efforts through TICAD 8. Minister Ganoo also stated that Mauritius supports Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) and expressed his hope to further develop bilateral relations between Mauritius and Japan including maritime security.
2. State Minister Yamada stated that Russia's aggression against Ukraine is outrageous act that shakes the very foundation of the international order. He welcomed the fact that Mauritius voted in favor of the UN resolutions related to Ukraine adopted on February 23 and stated that it is important for the international community as a whole to send a clear message to Russia that we are seriously concerned about Russia’s nuclear threat, which is absolutely unacceptable, let alone its use of nuclear weapons under any circumstances. In response, Minister Ganoo emphasized the importance of compliance with international rules. The two sides then agreed to work closely together to resolve the dispute as soon as possible.
3. The two sides also exchanged views, and confirmed that they will continue to work closely together, on various subjects, such as the UN Security Council reform and opaque and unfair development finance, as well as regional situation in East Asia, such as on dealing with North Korea including the nuclear and missile issue as well as the abductions issue.
