MONUSCO pays a warm tribute to Reverend Priest Malu Malu, honorary president of the Independent Electoral Commission “CENI”

KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo, July 4, 2016/APO/ --

Following the death of Reverend Priest Apollinaire Malu Malu on Thursday night,

30th June 2016 in Dallas, USA, MONUSCO extends warm tribute to the man who organized the first democratic elections in 2006.

This huge work done by him will go down in the annals of the DRC’s political history.

“I express my deepest sympathies to his family, his diocese of Butembo-Beni as well as to the entire Congolese population who have lost a man who dedicated his life to the cause of his country”, said Maman Sambo Sidikou, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in the DRC.

MONUSCO wishes to applaud his commitment and dedication to the service of the Congolese nation.

“Reverend Priest Malu Malu was a an example of a man full of experience, courage and convictions and, on top of his role in the organization of the 2006 elections, he plaid a key role in the stabilization of the conflict-affected areas, namely in the rolling-out of the stabilization and reconstruction plan for the eastern DRC, in the Kivus peace process, as well as in the Goma agreements and, more recently, in the outcome of the Kampala Talks between the ex-M23 and the Congolese Government.”

“I hope Congolese people will be inspired by his dedication to the cause of peace and his example will be imitated by the entire Congolese political leadership to help ourselves duplicate the past achievement in light of the previous elections, in organizing free, transparent and credible elections, as stipulated in the UNSC resolution 2277”, concluded Maman Sambo Sidikou.
