MONROVIA, Liberia, May 12, 2017/APO/ --

In recognition and appreciation of Liberia’s rich cultural heritage, the European Union has sponsored the production of a new edition of the book “Legends of Liberia”, a collection of stories from each of the nation’s tribes originally collected by the Australian traveller Peter Pinney in encounters with storytellers. The new edition is illustrated by Liberian-born Italian artist Luca Bai Varaschini.

Through this initiative, the European Union hopes to expose young generations to the rich culture and traditions that are the foundations of Liberia’s cultural identity.

Based on the book, the European Union has also sponsored the production of fifteen Audio Stories, one from each of the nation’s tribes, and is now pleased to launch a Children’s Art Competition open to all primary school students in Liberia.

The winners of the competition will be announced at the ceremony for the official launch of the book on June 16, 2017.
