Mauritius: Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Secretary-General meets Prime Minister to renew partnership in priority areas

Secretary-General Farisi underlined that discussions focused on strengthening the ongoing relationship and partnership between IORA and Mauritius and the way forward

He took the opportunity to commend Mauritius for taking the lead to coordinate tourism activities and cooperation, which he said, is important for all IORA members

The Secretary-General of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), Mr Salman Al Farisi, paid a courtesy call, this afternoon, on the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the Treasury Building, in Port-Louis.

In a statement after the meeting, Secretary-General Farisi underlined that discussions focused on strengthening the ongoing relationship and partnership between IORA and Mauritius and the way forward.

He took the opportunity to commend Mauritius for taking the lead to coordinate tourism activities and cooperation, which he said, is important for all IORA members.

Other priority areas of the IORA namely maritime security and safety; tourism; trade investment; disaster management; blue economy and women economic empowerment, were also at the agenda. 

Mr Farisi indicated that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the Indian Ocean Commission Council to extend assistance to Mauritius for the holding of the next ministerial meeting on maritime security.
