Joint statement by the HR/VP Federica Mogherini, EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development cooperation, Neven Mimica, and EU Commissioner for Humanitarian aid and Crisis management, Christos Stylianides on the situation in Juba, South Sudan

BRUSSELS, Belgium, July 11, 2016/APO/ --

"As of Sunday morning there has been a dramatic escalation of hostilities in South Sudan. The impact has been deadly and further threatening the very fragile livelihood of the people of South Sudan.
The European Union will join the international community and South Sudan's neighbours to ensure that peace is restored rapidly, that protection of the UN compounds is given priority, and that the most severe consequences await those who have provoked the latest round of fighting.
The EU urges in particular all parties to respect the obligation to grant unhindered humanitarian access."
