In honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day, U.S. Chargé d’affaires Ellen Thorburn visited the Martin Luther King School in Libreville to take part in the school’s annual commemoration of the U.S. civil rights leader.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an American minister and activist, one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. An African-American church leader and a son of early civil rights activist and minister Martin Luther King Sr.

Dr. King advanced civil rights in the United States through nonviolence and civil disobedience. By dedicating his life to serving his community, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. inspired generations.
