Angklung and Traditional Indonesian Clothing Celebrate the 2023 Asian Women's Day Festival in Sudan

The exhibition stand for traditional Indonesian crafts also became the center of attention with many visitors taking pictures and wearing Indonesian traditional clothes

The appearance of the angklung and the lively demonstration of Indonesian traditional clothing at the 2023 Asian Women's Day Festival in Sudan were able to impress the attention of invited guests and visitors who packed Queen's Hall, International Park, Khartoum on Saturday (18/3).

The cultural festival in the framework of Asian Women's Day (AWD) is an annual activity program of the Sudanese Council for International People's Friendship (CIPF) in collaboration with Representatives from Asian countries in Sudan featuring cultural arts, fashion shows, handicrafts and culinary products from participating countries.

Indonesian Ambassador to Sudan Sunarko revealed the participation of the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum at AWD 2023 in addition to promoting the richness and diversity of Indonesian cultural and culinary arts, as well as encouraging Gender Mainstreaming (PUG) among Indonesian citizens in Sudan by including the active role and participation of Indonesian female students who are members of the Student Association. As an opening performance, Indonesia introduced the beauty of traditional clothing from various regions, including Bali, Central Java, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, as well as the exotic costumes of the Garuda and Peacocks.

The audience was even more enthusiastic watching the performance of traditional angklung music playing the song Sudaniah (Sudan Women) which tells about the character of Sudanese women, namely tough, creative and innovative. Some of the audience even danced and sang to the rhythm of the angklung music.

Apart from that, the exhibition stand for traditional Indonesian crafts also became the center of attention with many visitors taking pictures and wearing Indonesian traditional clothes.

No less interesting, the Indonesian culinary offerings, chicken satay with special Madura peanut sauce plus Makassar green bananas were sold out and enjoyed by the visitors of the Indonesian culinary stand.

AWD 2023 activities consist of cultural titles, traditional clothing demonstrations, handicraft exhibitions, culinary exhibitions which are attended by representatives from Asian countries in Sudan, including Indonesia, China, India, Japan, Bangladesh and South Korea.
