USAID Support Improves Leadership and Management of the Health Workforce

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, August 1, 2017/APO/ --

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and its implementing partner Management Sciences for Health marked the successful completion of the USAID-funded Leadership, Management and Governance project.  The five-year project focused on capacity building of public sector health care providers and civil society organizations in Amhara, Oromia, Tigray, and Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples regions, as well as in the Dire Dawa and Harari areas.

Since July 2011, the Leadership, Management and Governance project supported the expansion of standardized and accredited training to more than 4,000 health professionals on topics such as improving the availability and quality of health services, organizational sustainability, financial management, human resources management, and business planning for health.

As a result of the joint efforts of the Government of Ethiopia and USAID, the project resulted in improved leadership, management and governance capacity at a number of different health facilities and led to significant improvements in the delivery of quality services by health care professionals. The learning from this project will inform future policy and program investments through the development of training manuals.
