UNITAR Leadership and Entrepreneurship Programme for 25 South Sudanese Professional Begins in Juba

JUBA, South Sudan, August 3, 2017/APO/ --

The UNITAR South Sudan Fellowship Programme: Entrepreneurship and Leadership Youth Training 2017 Cycle begins with an Workshop I: Orientation on 7 August at UNITAR’s Juba office, located in the UNDP compound, Juba, South Sudan. The Orientation Workshop will be followed by Workshop I, to be held from 16 – 20 August in Entebbe, Uganda. We would like to take this opportunity to invite your esteemed organizations to attend the Orientation Workshop. This represents a key opportunity for the people of South Sudan to be informed about UNITAR’s capacity-building efforts, which are supported by the Government and People of Japan for building a better future for all.

Following the launch of the 2017 Cycle, UNITAR has completed the selection process of 20 Fellows from the public sector, civil society organizations, private sector, media, and academic institutions of South Sudan. Sixty candidates were nominated from the specific departments and units highlighted in the target list, out of which 20 qualified individuals have been selected to take part in the programme. The selection process was highly competitive and merit-based. It examined the academic qualifications, professional experiences, and learning orientations of the candidates, along with an interview and written test, the latter of which was introduced to the selection process for the first time. Five Coaches, graduates from previous cycles, have also been appointed to support the Fellows throughout the learning process and contextualize the learning to the realities of South Sudan.

The programme is a six-month-long initiative being undertaken with the financial support of the Government and People of Japan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Republic of South Sudan, is the political focal point for the programme and the Ministry of Labour, Public Service, and Human Resource Development, Republic of South Sudan, is the operational focal point.

We are looking forward to meeting you at the Orientation Workshop. The tentative agenda of the Orientation Workshop is attached as Annex One. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact myself (shamsul.shams@unitar.org) anytime.
