ROME, Italy, September 15, 2017/APO/ --

A ceremony was held in Khartoum at the headquarters of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Program (“DDR”) to mark the occasion for putting into operation the computer equipment recently donated to Sudan organisations by Cooperation Italy, through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (“AICS”) in Khartoum.

Attendees at the ceremony included the General Commissioner of the DDR, the Planning Director for International Cooperation of the Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Ambassador in Sudan, Mr Fabrizio Lobasso, and the AICS Director in Khartoum, Vincenzo Racalbuto. A donation of about 25,000 euros enabled the purchase of crucial computer equipment for DDR  planning and development, including portable computers, servers, printers, and more importantly, online programs to identify and register ex-combatants, whose reintegration into civil society and the work environment is an absolute priority for the Sudan government.

“This new project by Cooperation Italy in Sudan supports the Italian commitment to strengthening the capacity building of the DDR and local organisations. It directly contributes towards the stabilisation of the country and the long-term development of an inclusive strategy for vulnerable people and civil society affected by war” said the Ambassador, Mr Lobasso.
