Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on Mali

The Secretary-General renews the support of the United Nations to the Government of Mali and the signatory parties in their efforts to implement the peace agreement

NEW YORK, United States of America, June 12, 2017/APO/ --

The Secretary-General condemns the two attacks against the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in the city of Kidal on 8 June that left three peacekeepers dead and injured eight others.
 

The Secretary-General presents his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Guinea. He wishes speedy recovery to the injured peacekeepers. The Secretary-General reiterates that attacks targeting United Nations peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law and calls for the perpetrators of this attack to be swiftly brought to justice.

The Secretary-General renews the support of the United Nations to the Government of Mali and the signatory parties in their efforts to implement the peace agreement.
