State Minister Kishi attends the Uganda Solidarity Summit on Refugees

The Uganda Solidarity Summit on Refugees was co-hosted by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, and Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, in light of the fact that Uganda is hosting a great number of refugees from neighboring countries like South Sudan

TOKYO, Japan, June 26, 2017/APO/ --

1. Mr. Nobuo Kishi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited the Republic of Uganda from June 22 to 23 and attended the Uganda Solidarity Summit on Refugees.

2. State Minister Kishi made a statement (PDF) on Japan's policy of comprehensive refugee assistance and its implementation in Uganda at the summit meeting.

3. The Uganda Solidarity Summit on Refugees was co-hosted by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, and Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, in light of the fact that Uganda is hosting a great number of refugees from neighboring countries like South Sudan. Participants showed their solidarity to Uganda and discussed assistance for refugees.

4. State Minister Kishi had bilateral talks with the following representatives and shared the willingness to continue the cooperation to tackle the growing refugee crisis.

  • H.E. Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda.
  • Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda. 
  • Mr. Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. 
  • Mr. David Beasley, Executive Director, World Food Programme.
