Secretary-General Appoints Radhia Achouri of Tunisia Director, United Nations Information Centre in Cairo

Before joining the United Nations, Ms. Achouri worked in Tunisia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1992 to 2002, including as Counsellor at the country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York

CAIRO, Egypt, September 7, 2017/APO/ --

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Radhia Achouri of Tunisia as Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Cairo, covering Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Ms. Achouri assumed her duties on 4 September.

Prior to this appointment, Ms. Achouri served since 2014 as Director of the Public Information Office and Spokesperson for the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), providing operational leadership to that Mission’s public information activities and formulating its overall communications strategy.

From 2004 to 2014, she led the public information operations and served as spokesperson for several United Nations peace operations and entities, including the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) from 2012 to 2014; the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) from 2010 to 2012; the Special Tribunal for Lebanon from 2009 to 2010; the United Nations International Independent Investigation Commission from 2008 to 2009; and the United Nations Mission in Sudan from 2004 to 2008.

Before joining the United Nations, Ms. Achouri worked in Tunisia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1992 to 2002, including as Counsellor at the country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Sousse in Tunisia, and is fluent in Arabic, English and French.
