The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola. He congratulated him for his recent election. The Secretary-General and President Lourenço discussed, amongst others, the situation in Zimbabwe. They emphasised the need to maintain the peaceful nature of the transition, in line with the country’s Constitution, hoping that it will lead to free and fair elections. The Secretary-General commended SADC, and Angola as Chair of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, for its continued efforts to ensure peace and security in the region.
