On August 28, 2017 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sameh Shoukri, who is currently on a visit to Belarus.  It is the first visit to Belarus of the Head of the Foreign Ministry of Egypt in the course of the history of bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the development of the Belarusian-Egyptian cooperation in a wide range of areas, collaboration in the political, trade, economic, scientific and educational spheres. The Ministers expressed satisfaction with the degree of mutual support on the international arena, as well as underlined the intention to continue constructive cooperation in the future.

The parties also considered the issues of improving the legal framework of bilateral cooperation. In this context, the Belarusian side confirmed its’ support of Egypt in the negotiations on the conclusion of an agreement on the establishment of a free trade zone between the EAEU member states and Egypt, which will become an important component of bilateral economic cooperation.

Special attention was paid to the development of new and implementation of existing joint projects in the field of industrial cooperation, including within the framework of the agreements reached during the visit of the Head of the Belarusian State to Cairo in January 2017.

The parties also exchanged views on the situation in the regions of the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus accepted with gratitude the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart to visit Egypt.
