Term of Appointment: 08/18/2014 to present Mary Warlick assumed the position of Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Energy Resources in August 2014. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ms. Warlick served as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia from 2010 to 2012, where she facilitated regional reconciliation, reforms, and the process of European integration. She then served as Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Melbourne, Australia. Ms. Warlick has over ten years of experience working on Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, serving as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Russia at the National Security Council, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Europe and NATO Policy, and Director of the State Department’s Offices of Russian Affairs, and Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus Affairs. She served abroad as Minister-Counselor for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Global Affairs Counselor in Bonn, and Economic Officer in Manila and Dhaka. She also served on the staff of the State Department’s Executive Secretariat. Ms. Warlick holds a B.A. in Political Science and Humanities from Valparaiso University in Indiana, and an M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She served as a board member of the Australian-American Fulbright Commission and is the recipient of several State Department Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards, as well as the Secretary of State’s Award for Public Outreach.
