The meeting in Nairobi will set the stage for new EU-African partnerships in Research and Innovation

On Wednesday 20 March 2019, European Research Council (ERC) President Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon and representatives of the European Commission will meet with African Research and Innovation stakeholders at the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) in Nairobi, Kenya to promote EU-African research cooperation under Horizon 2020, the EU’s research and innovation programme.

To date, 310 projects involving researchers from African Union countries have been funded with €123 million under the Horizon 2020 programme. The meeting in Nairobi will set the stage for new EU-African partnerships in Research and Innovation, aligning with the strategic vision of ‘transforming lives through science’.

At the event, journalists may participate in the morning programme. This will consist of welcoming remarks by the Professor Felix Dapare Dakora, President of the African Academy of Sciences and Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, President of the European Research Council, as well as presentations on EU-Africa scientific cooperation, successes and challenges from the perspectives of the European and African Union Commissions. The programme also includes opportunities to interact and conduct one-to-ones with the presenters.
