Wang Yi: Enhance China-Mozambique Cooperation in Production Capacity, Agriculture, and Peace and Security

On February 2, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Maputo with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Oldemiro Marques Balói of Mozambique.

Wang Yi said that China stood firmly with Mozambique in its fight for national liberation. Mozambique is now in the process of realizing its national dream of independence and prosperity, and China will continue its cooperation with Mozambique. This year is the beginning year for implementing the ten cooperation plans between China and Africa put forward by President Xi Jinping at the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), China has started the implementation work and set up a fund for production capacity cooperation, and will soon launch the first batch of projects, and then more and more enterprises will focus their attention on Africa. China is willing to discuss with Mozambique the cooperation under this framework at the earliest time to help its development and bring more benefits to its people. Both sides could focus their cooperation on the following aspects:

Enhance production capacity cooperation. China will share its industrialization experience with Mozambique, discuss with Mozambique on the building of industrial parks and special economic zones and transfer its advantageous production capacity and mature technologies to Mozambique. China will also, giving priority to two key areas of gas and manufacturing and taking infrastructure construction, human resources development and capital as three supports, help Mozambique accelerate its industrialization process and enhance its self-development capacity. China will view Mozambique as a natural extension of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and boost cooperation with Mozambique in marine economy and port-neighboring industrial parks.

Boost agricultural cooperation. China will give better play to the role of the Agricultural Demonstration Center Set up by China in Mozambique, strengthen professional training, encourage more of its enterprises to conduct cooperation in grain planting, fishery and the like in Mozambique so as to help the country realize food security and increase agricultural income.

Intensify peace and security cooperation to improve Mozambique's ability in safeguarding national security, social stability and sovereign independence.

Beef up cooperation in such areas as poverty reduction, education and medical care to help Mozambique improve its people's livelihood.

Step up coordination and cooperation in such international and regional issues as climate change and sustainable development to safeguard the common interests of developing countries.

Oldemiro Marques Balói expressed that Mozambique and China always share weal and woe and give mutual support whether in Mozambique's fight for liberation or in its national development process. Mozambique will cooperate with China in such fields as energy, infrastructure construction, manufacturing and agriculture and thus push bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation to a new high. Mozambique speaks highly of the results of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit and will join hands with China to implement them so as to realize common development.
