Visit by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman to South Africa and Namibia, 31 October to 5 November 2016

Singapore and South Africa share longstanding and close cooperation in defence, trade and capacity building, while Namibia is one of southern Africa’s best performing economies in recent years

SINGAPORE, Singapore, October 31, 2016/APO/ --

SMS Dr Maliki Osman will visit South Africa and Namibia from 31 October to 5 November 2016 as part of a series of ministerial visits from Singapore to Sub-Saharan Africa. Singapore and South Africa share longstanding and close cooperation in defence, trade and capacity building, while Namibia is one of southern Africa’s best performing economies in recent years. 

In South Africa, SMS Maliki will meet his counterparts Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Nomaindiya Mfeketo, Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Emmanuel Kebby Maphatsoe to discuss bilateral cooperation. SMS Maliki will also call on Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Noluthando Mapisa-Nqakula, former President of South Africa Kgalema Motlanthe and meet with senior officials from the ruling African National Congress (ANC). In addition, he will discuss potential areas of cooperation with the Premiers of Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape provinces. SMS Maliki will meet with key business leaders in Durban and the Muslim community in Cape Town, and interact with Singaporeans based in Johannesburg and Cape Town. 

In Namibia, SMS Maliki will call on President Hage Geingob, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to reaffirm our warm bilateral relations and explore further areas of cooperation. SMS Maliki will also host a reception for Namibian alumni of the Singapore Cooperation Programme.

SMS Maliki will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
