Ambassador David Saperstein, the Department of State’s U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, arrived in Egypt yesterday to meet with Egyptian government officials, as well as religious and civil society leaders discuss advancing religious tolerance and inter-faith dialogue in the region.

 “Religious tolerance and freedom are fundamental values that both the United States and Egypt cherish deeply.  These shared values are what motivate us in the global fight against violent extremism.  I look forward to speaking with Egyptian religious leaders about how we can work together to promote tolerance in the region.” 

Ambassador Saperstein arrived in Cairo following a visit to Turkey, where he delivered keynote remarks at the 2015 G20 Interfaith Summit (http://www.g20interfaith.org). 

Ambassador Saperstein assumed his duties on January 6, 2015. The Ambassador at Large is, by U.S. law, a principal advisor to the U.S. President and Secretary of State and serves as the United States’ chief envoy on issues of religious freedom worldwide.
