PRETORIA, South Africa, April 4, 2017/APO/ --

The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria invites you to an exhibition of the Sun Chaser solar powered car on Wednesday, April 5 at 14:00 in Sammy Marks Square in Pretoria. Designed and built by engineering students at Tshwane University of Technology, this car successfully used solar power to traverse over 2000 kilometers of South Africa in eight days during the #SasolSolarChallenge 2016.

The solar car exhibition is part of the ongoing collaboration between the U.S. Embassy’s American Corner Pretoria, Tshwane University of Technology, the City of Tshwane, and Sammy Marks Square.  The American Corner has hosted a three-part series around the YALI Network course: Understanding Renewable Energy (https://yali.state.gov/courses/energy). The discussions have been led by Mandela Washington Fellowship alum, Morwesi Ramonyai, Managing Director of Borena Energy and Thuba Moyo, CEO of Kodo Energy Limited. Participants looked at how existing power systems work and can be adapted to a renewable energy future and how renewable energy creates new opportunities and jobs for many different sectors.

The American Corner Pretoria is located at the Es’kia Mphalele Community Library in Sammy Marks Square. The American Corner provides high-speed Internet access and state of the art equipment together with print and digital resources to promote research, professional development and personal enrichment.
