Racial Discrimination: UN Committee to review Holy See, Lithuania, Egypt, Slovenia, Mongolia, Turkey

GENEVA, Switzerland, November 16, 2015/APO (African Press Organization)/ --

The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) is meeting in Geneva from 23 November to 11 December to review: Holy See (24-25 Nov); Lithuania (27 Nov); Egypt (30 Nov-1 Dec); Slovenia (1-2 Dec); Mongolia (2-3 Dec); Turkey (3-4 Dec).
 

The above are among the 177 States Parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. They are required to submit regular reports to the Committee, which is composed of 18 international independent experts.  CERD will also hear from NGOs and national human rights institutions.  

The public sessions run from 10:00 to 13:00 and 15:00 to 18:00. Live webcasts can be viewed at www.treatybodywebcast.org The meetings will take place at Palais Wilson in Geneva.

The concluding observations will be published here on Friday 11 December. The Committee will hold a news conference at 13:30  on 11 December at the Palais des Nations in Geneva to discuss its findings.


50 years of fighting racism - #FightRacism



The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 21 December 1965. To mark the Convention’s 50th anniversary, the Committee is holding an event on Thursday 26 November in Room XX at Palais des Nations in Geneva, “ICERD - Fifty years of fighting racial discrimination:  looking back and moving forward”.  More information here: http://www.ohchr.org/EN/HRBodies/CERD/50/Pages/Icerd50.aspx
