Press release on Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov’s telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Accord Ahmed Maiteeq

On May 10, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and North Africa Mikhail Bogdanov had a telephone conversation with Vice Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya and Deputy Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Accord Ahmed Maiteeq.

Mikhail Bogdanov once again thanked the Libyan leadership for their assistance in securing the release of the Russian crew members of the dry cargo ship Merle, which was detained in Libya in March.

The officials had a lengthy exchange of views on the situation in Libya in the context of the stepped up efforts to achieve the unity and territorial integrity of the country on the basis of the agreements reached at the meeting of Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya and Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Accord Fayez al-Sarraj with Libyan National Army Commander Khalifa Haftar in Abu Dhabi on May 2.

The Russian party confirmed that it remained strongly committed to supporting the inclusive intra-Libyan dialogue and facilitating the political process using its contacts with representatives of various political forces in Libya.
