The U.S. Embassy and Mission to the African Union are hosting an event on March 1 at 2:00 pm to engage the tourist sector in Ethiopia about the negative impacts of the illegal wildlife trade. Ethiopia is a transit country for endangered wildlife products from Africa.  

Speakers will include the U.S. Ambassador to the African Union (AU), People's Republic of China Ambassador to the African Union, and officials from the AU Commission, the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority, and the Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority. They will highlight the important role that tourist agencies, airlines, and hotels can play in educating their customers about wildlife trafficking and sustainable tourism. 

The U.S. Regional Environment Office for East Africa will distribute posters, flyers, and postcards to participants to help spread awareness of the long-term goals of reducing illegal trade in wildlife products and protecting Africa’s wildlife.
