High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini meets UN Secretary-General's Special Representative and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya, Martin Kobler

The HR/VP Mogherini updated the Special Representative also on the training of the Libyan Coast Guard by EUNAVFOR MED Operation Sophia

BRUSSELS, Belgium, November 16, 2016/APO/ --

They exchanged views on the political and security situation in Libya and underlined the need to overcome the current political deadlock for the sake of all Libyans.

The HR/VP Mogherini underlined the need for all actors, including the Libyan authorities and United Nations bodies, to do more to ensure the protection and assistance of vulnerable migrants inside Libya, by improving the living conditions in these centres. In this regard, she pledged continued European Union support.  

The HR/VP Mogherini updated the Special Representative also on the training of the Libyan Coast Guard by EUNAVFOR MED Operation Sophia. 

Federica Mogherini and Martin Kobler underlined the importance of addressing the serious economic and financial crisis, and they welcomed the ongoing efforts aimed at supporting the Presidency Council's control on the economy and finances which should enable it to deliver more services to the Libyan people.
