Inspired by the touching movie “Queen of Katwe”, the German Embassy Kampala is funding the SOM Chess Academy Children Seminar, taking place from 24th to 26th February 2017. German Chess Grandmaster Thomas Luther is going to coach 80 of the strongest young chess players from underprivileged backgrounds in Kampala and Gulu in chess strategies and tactics for two days.

The Seminar has an inclusive approach and has also registered children with physical handicaps.

Organized by Robert Katende, founder of the SOM Chess Academy (http://www.somchessacademy.com/), it is another step on the way to transform lives of vulnerable children and young people through chess. Uganda’s Queen of Katwe, Phiona Mutesi, is also eager to learn from the German Grandmaster and will actively participate in the event.
