Foreign Affairs Committee: highlights of next meeting (9 January)

EU-Morocco relations, 15.00-16.00; Monday 9 January; Brussels - Room: József Antall (2Q2)

BRUSSELS, Belgium, January 5, 2017/APO/ --

MEPs on the Foreign Affairs Committee will debate the latest developments in EU-Morocco relations with Nicholas Westcott, EEAS Managing Director Middle East and North Africa.

The debate will focus on the latest decision by EU Court of Justice (case Council vs. Front Polisario) to set aside the judgment of the General Court which in 2015 annulled the EU-Morocco trade deal covering trade in agricultural and fishery products (Liberalisation Agreement). The 2016 ruling finds the mentioned agreement not to be applicable to Western Sahara, where a smaller part of that territory is controlled by the Front Polisario, a movement which seeks independence for Western Sahara and whose legitimacy has been recognized by the United Nations.
