1. On August 28 (same date local time), H.E. Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, exchanged Notes concerning Japan’s Grant Aid amounting to JPY 1 billion with Mr. Henry K. Rotich, Cabinet Secretary to the National Treasury of the Republic of Kenya, in Nairobi, the capital city of the Republic of Kenya.

2. This cooperation is intended to extend the funds for the purchase of necessary goods and services for the purpose of Kenya’s economic and social development for aggressive poverty reduction such as large-scale infrastructure development, free elementary and secondary education, strengthening of decentralization for reducing regional disparities based on its long term development strategy “Vision 2030” which aims at becoming a middle-income country by 2030.

(1) Grant Aid (Economic and Social Development Program) JPY 0.7 billion:
This cooperation is intended to support Kenya’s economic and social development and the promotion of overseas business deployment of Japanese companies through capacity building in the field of peace-building such as counter-terrorism by extending Japanese products like face authentication system and behavior detection system.

(2) Grant Aid (Economic and Social Development Program) JPY 0.3 billion:
This cooperation aims to support Kenya’s economic and social development through providing products such as road maintenance equipment. It also aims to promote overseas business deployment of small and medium-sized Japanese companies through improving recognition of their products and creation of continuous demand for them.

3. Through this cooperation, Japan intends to contribute to the “Economic Diversification and Industrialization of Africa”, which is one of the main agenda of Sixth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD VI) held in Africa for the first time on August 27-28.
